Explanation of Bill

 

Labeled Sample Bill

1. Account number – This is your HEMC account number. Please refer to this number when registering online, calling or emailing the HEMC office. If you receive service at more than one location, you will have a different account number for that location.
2. Name – This is how the name appears on your HEMC account.
3. Service address – This is the address for the location served.
4. Billing date – This is the date the meter reading was taken and the bill created.
5. Current bill due date – This is the date the bill is due. Payment must be received by 5 p.m. on this date to avoid late charges.
6. Total amount due – Amount of this current bill and any balances carried forward from the previous bill. If the bill includes a previous unpaid balance, the circle will be red. If the bill is for the current balance only, it will be green.
7. Monthly energy use comparison – This shows the number of days per month and the number of kilowatt hours used per month when comparing the current month, the previous month, and the same month the previous year.
8. Your average daily use – This breaks down the average daily kilowatt-hour usage, the average daily cost, and the average temperature for the current month.
9. Member monthly message – Provides information about HEMC services, products, and holiday closings.
10. Total amount due after (date) – Total bill plus 5% late fee.
11. Rate description – This is the rate schedule assigned to your account.
12. Meter # – This is the serial number of the meter assigned to this account. The serial number can be found inside the glass of the meter. If you have multiple accounts, you will have a different meter number for each. To simplify recordkeeping, you may match the meter number on your bills to the serial number on the meters then contact HEMC to have each account labeled (ie: rental, shop, well pump, chicken house 1, etc.).
13. Description – This indicates the type of bill and whether it was estimated or prorated; a minimum, final, or budgeted bill; or a contract.
14. Days – The number of days of the current bill.
15. Services – The dates your meter was read. The beginning and end dates of the cycle you are being billed for.
16. Readings – Shows the readings on the beginning and ending dates of the billing cycle.
17. Metered usage – This is the total amount of energy used.
18. Meter multiplier – The multiplier number is determined by the type of meter and equipment installed at the location. Ninety-five percent of HEMC meters have a multiplier of one, which is equal to the actual number of kilowatt hours on the meter.
19. Recorded usage – The usage is multiplied by the multiplier number.
20. Previous account activity –
    • Previous balance – This shows the amount of your last bill.
    • Payment(s) received – Thank you – Shows the amount last paid.
    • Balance before current charges – Shows any balance after the last payment.
21. Current activity –
    • Facility charge – Also referred to as the Service Charge in the Rate Schedules. This recovers expenses incurred by HEMC such as equipment, maintenance, metering and billing services.
    • Energy charge – The total cost of energy used. The charge per kWh is set by the rate schedule assigned to this account.
    • Outdoor lighting charge – Monthly charge for outdoor lighting. (optional service and will not appear on all bills)
    • Pole charge – Charge for installation of additional pole for the outdoor lighting. (optional service and will not appear on all bills)
    • State tax – Energy charges are subject to applicable state taxes.
    • Local tax – Energy charges are subject to applicable local taxes.
    • Total current activity – Total amount of current billing cycle.
    • Total amount due – Total amount of previous and current billing cycle.
22. WPCA – WPCA stands for Wholesale Power Cost Adjustment. WPCA is a rate that adjusts for changes in purchase power costs (such as generation capacity and fuel.) The monthly charge can be an addition, subtraction, or zero and can fluctuate from month to month.
