HEMC Empowering Local Youth Through Unique Opportunities

Posted: January 3, 2019

Habersham EMC is proudly presenting opportunities for students to develop their leadership skills and further their education.  Applications for two programs are now available through our website or at our offices in Clarkesville and Cleveland – The Washington Youth Tour and the Walter Harrison Scholarship.

This year’s Washington Youth Tour is scheduled for June 13-20, 2019. Two local high school juniors will be selected to participate in this all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C. Students from across the country will have the unique opportunity to see their nation’s capital, learn about the political process and interact with elected officials. During the tour, the students will explore museums, memorials and monuments. Application deadline is Friday, February 1, 2019.

The Walter Harrison Scholarship is named to honor the late Walter Harrison of Millen. He was known in Georgia and across the nation as “Mr. Rural Electrification” for his pioneering efforts in the electric cooperative industry and for his lifelong dedication to improving the quality of life in rural areas.  The $1,000 scholarship is open to all EMC members and employees throughout the state of Georgia. A combination of need and academic ability will be used in determining scholarship winners.  Application deadline is Friday, February 1, 2019.
