Habersham EMC Announces December Rate Decrease
As a continuation of the rate decrease in November, Habersham EMC members will see a credit on their December bills due to the reduction of the Wholesale Power Cost Adjustment (WPCA) factor. This reduction will benefit almost every Habersham EMC (HEMC) member.
HEMC members will save $28.00 for every 1,000 kWh used, resulting in a total savings of approximately $2.5 million for the membership. The actual savings will vary depending on the amount of energy used.
The WPCA Factor reflects the fluctuations in HEMC’s cost of wholesale power purchased. The HEMC Board of Directors approved this adjustment to the WPCA while will lower the electricity rate for almost every HEMC member on their energy bills during November and December 2018.
As part of HEMC’s commitment to improving transparency, the electric bills have been changed to show the amounts of the three components previously included in the total electricity charge. (Please note: the energy and facilities charge remain the same amount as contained in the total electricity charge prior to the breakout of components.):
- Energy – charge for the kilowatt hour usage based upon the rate. This is the first line of the bill.
- Wholesale Power Cost Adjustment – reflects the fluctuations in HEMC’s cost of wholesale power purchased.
- Facilities Charge – also referred to as the Service Charge in the rate schedules. This recovers expenses incurred by HEMC such as equipment, line maintenance, metering and billing services.
