No Outages Reported Due to Winter Storm Inga

HEMC members have not experienced outages due to Winter Storm Inga as of 4 p.m. today.

The winter weather advisory is still in effect through 11 a.m. on Thursday. With temperatures expected to be in the teens tonight, HEMC anticipates system-wide peaks of electrical demand and consumption. Energy conservation is encouraged during these times. Please consider:

  • Setting your thermostat to the suggested energy conservation level of 68 degrees

Habersham EMC Prepares for Winter Storm Inga

Habersham EMC is closely monitoring weather conditions in preparation for Winter Storm Inga's arrival. Employees are on a heightened state of readiness and prepared to react immediately.


Contingency plans are in place to address potential outages associated with snow accumulation, high winds and extreme cold. The following steps have been taken:


  • Poles, wire, transformers and other supplies used in the restoration process are in stock


HEMC Announces 2018 Right of Way Maintenance Initiative

To further promote improved reliability to our membership, HEMC will cut 350 miles of right of way during 2018.

Winter Weather Preparations - Jan. 5, 2018

Habersham EMC anticipates system-wide peaks of electrical demand and consumption due to the forecasted frigid temperatures. The greatest contributor to these peaks is heating as auxiliary heat strips are activated and electric heat sources are used for longer periods of time.


Cleaning and Lawn Care Contracts Awarded

Following a delay due to Winter Storm Benji, Habersham EMC has awarded contracts for the cleaning and lawn care services to the following companies:


       Cleaning:        Appalachian Hard Surface Restoration, Cleveland, Ga

       Lawn Care:     Turnerville Lawn Care, Clarkesville, Ga

Winter Storm Benji Restoration Updates

Approximately 30 meters remain without power. Crews are working to restore those today. 

HEMC staff is also monitoring the weather and is prepared to respond as additional outages occur due to the predicted high winds.

Habersham EMC Returns Capital Credits

For the 31st consecutive year, Habersham EMC (HEMC) members received capital credit checks in late November. Since 1987, HEMC has returned more than $14 million to members. This year's retirement includes the return of capital contributed by members in 1987.


Member capital is utilized for a period of time to finance electric system improvements and maintain the financial strength required by HEMC's lenders. Then it is returned, demonstrating one of the principles of our cooperative, nonprofit organization.

HEMC Holds Member Dialogue Session


Approximately 70 Habersham EMC members took advantage of the opportunity to have one-on-one discussions with the HEMC Board of Directors, executive staff and employees when they chose to attend HEMC's first Member Dialogue Session September 28 in Clarkesville.


"The purpose of this session is to hear from all members. Some have already shared ideas, concerns and suggestions. We want to hear more," stated Rick Wood, Chairman of HEMC Board of Directors.
