HEMC Awards Funds to Local Organizations
As an electric membership cooperative owned by the members we serve, Habersham EMC is committed to giving back to our community. House Bill 431 helps us do that by allowing EMCs in Georgia to use capital credits that go unclaimed for five years to fund education, economic development and 501(c)(3) charitable organizations in our service area.
In 2016, HEMC representatives presented a total of $33,858 in unclaimed Capital Credits to the following organizations:
Backpack Buddies of White County was awarded $5,000. The initiative provides food for students on weekends.
Catalyst Christian Learning Center of White County, received $2,000.
Community Hands Health Clinic in Cleveland received $2,500.
Food2Kids of Habersham County received $5,000 to support the weekend food program for students.
Food2Kids of Rabun County received $2,500 for their student weekend food program.
Georgia Mountains FCA received $1,500 to support programs in Habersham, Lumpkin, Rabun, Stephens and White counties.
Grace Gate, of Demorest, was awarded $2,500 for their health care initiatives.
Habersham Christian Learning Center was awarded $2,000.
Habersham EMC Foundation, Inc. was awarded $5,858.64 for the Operation Round Up® program.
The Northeast Georgia Regional Library received $5,000 to support branches in Clarkesville, Cleveland, Cornelia, Helen and Rabun County.
