Explanation of Bill

  1. Account number - This is your HEMC account number. Please refer to this number when calling or e-mailing the HEMC office. If you receive service at more than one location, you will have a different account number for that location.
     
  2. Name - This is how the name appears on your HEMC account.
     
  3. Rate - This is the rate schedule assigned to your account.
     
  4. Cycle - This is the cycle that your meter is read in.
     
  5. Telephone - This is either the home telephone number or cell phone number linked to your account. This is the number our outage reporting system will recognize for this account. If the number on your statement is not correct, please notify HEMC immediately.
     
  6. Location number - This is the number assigned to this particular account's physical location. This number is coded to HEMC's mapping system.
     
  7. Meter number - This is the serial number of the meter assigned to this account. The serial number can be found inside the glass of the meter. If you have multiple accounts you will have a different meter number for each. To simplify recordkeeping, you may match the meter number on your bills to the serial number on the meters then contact HEMC to have each account labeled (ie: rental, shop, well pump, chicken house 1, etc.).
     
  8. Service dates - These show the dates your meter was read. The beginning and ending dates of the cycle you are being billed for.
     
  9. Number of days - The number of days of the current bill.
     
  10. Type of bill - Coded to let you know the type of bill and whether it was estimated or prorated; a minimum, final or levelized bill; or a contract.
     
  11. Reading - Shows the readings on the beginning and ending dates of the billing cycle.
     
  12. Multiplier - The multiplier number is determined by the type of meter and equipment installed at the location. Ninety-nine percent of HEMC meters have a multiplier of one, which is equal to the actual number of kWhs on the meter.
     
  13. KWH usage - The amount of kWhs used during the billing cycle.
     
  14. Charges
     

    • Usage - This is the total amount of energy used. The charge per kWh is set by the rate schedule assigned to this account.
       
    • Local tax - Energy charges are subject to applicable local taxes.
       
    • State tax - Energy charges are subject to applicable state taxes.
       
    • Total current electric bill and due date - amount of energy charges and taxes.
       
    • Operation Round-up - This is a voluntary program, participants elect to have their bill rounded up to the next dollar. The change goes into a fund which is overseen by a voluntary member board. The fund is used to better the communities served by HEMC in the way of community projects and deserving individual needs. The money cannot be used to pay electricity bills.
       
    • Previous amount due or Previous unpaid balance - Shows the amount of your last bill. If a payment has not been received by the date this bill is printed this line will state "Previous unpaid balance". This is also where credits or balances transferred from other accounts will be shown.
       
    • Thank you for your payment (and date paid) - Shows the amount and last date bill was paid.
       
    • Total amount due or Total electric bill due - Amount of this current bill and any balances carried forward from the previous bill. This amount does not include additional products or services. If the bill includes a previous unpaid balance, the following statement will appear in bold print in parenthesis "This account is subject to disconnection after due date" with an additional line below "Current bill due date does not apply to the previous balance due".
       
    • Additional products and services - Any additional products or services you have from HEMC on this account will show here. Ancillary products and services include: weather radios, surge protectors, PowerGuard monitoring and installation. Ancillary items are also subject to applicable state and local taxes.
       

  15. Total due now - Total of energy usage and additional services and products.
     
  16. Past due after (date) - Payment must be received by the close of business at 5 p.m. on this date to avoid late charges.
     
  17. After due date pay - Total bill plus 5% late fee.
     
  18. Comparisons
     

    • Chart - Compares the number of days of service, total kWhs, average kWhs per day and cost per day of the current billing period, the previous billing period, and the same period from the previous year.
       
    • Graph - Provides a visual comparison of your electricity use over the last 13 months.
       

  19. Message box - Provides information about holiday closings, services and products. Lower left corner also states if bill is TO BE PAID BY DRAFT.
     
  20. Rate description - The legend for the HEMC rates.
     
  21. Type of bill description - The legend for the type of bill.
